Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide, is quickly becoming one of the most sought after ingredients in skin care. Studies have shown that Vitamin B3 can reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and acne. This multifunctional ingredient is a water-soluble derivative of niacin, one of the eight vitamins in the Vitamin B complex. Vitamin B3 is commonly used in skin care as a brightening agent. It works well for individuals with dark spots, as it is thought to block the enzyme responsible for melanin production, thus, promoting the appearance of even skin tone. Vitamin B3 can also slow down the appearance of wrinkles by increasing collagen production, making it a great addition to an anti-aging skin care routine. Acne-prone skin can be treated with Vitamin B3 as well, as it is thought to reduce oil production. This ingredient is usually formulated into leave-on products like serums and creams, especially for even tone products, and is best used twice daily.
